Here are the first five warriors I’ve painted, ready for the codex release next weekend! The bases are done exactly as per the article I posted last week, I’ll put up a post on how I’ve done the warriors themselves soon. The paint scheme is relatively quick and I’m hoping to have roughly a thousand points done relatively quickly.
love this paint scheme for the necrons, looks amazing!! do you remember what colors you used for them? both the dark metal bodies and the glowy bits?

Thanks! The bodies were done with a n all over coat of Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, followed by a 50/50 coat of contrast black Templar and terradon turquoise, and finally the chips are Vallejo metal colour aluminium. The glow is Vallejo game warlord purple, followed by successive highlights of the same with more and more white mixed in.

Dear Lagomorph, I have a few questions regarding your color scheme. The contrast paints, are they applied via airbrush as a filter, or traditionally by normal paintbrush? Same goes for the glow: is the purple airbrushed on, or just carefully layered? Paints for the coppery bits and the non metallic hoses and so? The result is one of the best looking necron color schemes I have ever seen, and one I intend to borrow heavily from.

Thanks for the kind words! The contrast was applied by brush. The glow by airbrush although I always go back and brush paint in the light source after I’ve done the glow. The copper bits I can’t quite remember, but at a guess something like Balthasar Gold followed by a wash of Coelia Greenshade with a highlight back up to Balthasar. Hope that helps!

I tried using the combination of abbadon + terradon contrast paints and can’t seem to find the same results. My first attempt I used 50/50 and it came out a very matte black. My second and third I used more terradon and it looks closer, but doesn’t have the same richness and still appears fairly flat. Any tips that might help?

Interesting, I know my mix was 50/50 exactly because I used a syringe to measure it out. I wonder if in the refresh of washes/contrasts they did recently they changed the formulations a bit. I’d suggest adding more terradon like you did until it look good to you. If by flat you mean not reflective, I do varnish my models after painting so that might have affected the finish a bit.

Sorry to post on an old topic, but I love the scheme, and am taking heavy inspiration from it!
just had a question. When you painted, did you use any drybrushing? Or just layering/airbrush?

Hey! Glad to hear you’re liking the scheme. I did use an airbrush to get the silver base down (easy enough to do with a brush or a spray can if depending on what you prefer) everything else is with a brush. If you look at the other comments above I detailed the steps I took.

I have two more questions, did you prime black or a light color? What colors did you use for accents? Runelord brass and Terradon Turqouise? Thanks so much!

Primed black, silver basecoat (I used Vallejo paint here but any silver would work), the wash is a mix of terradon turquoise and black Templar 50/50, the brassy bits I’m not too sure anymore but runelord brass is probably about right.
